  It’s all about the

  The dialogue

One day Jesse said to David, “Take this basket of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread, and carry them quickly to your brothers. And give these ten cuts of cheese to their captain. See how your brothers are getting along, and bring back a report on how they are doing.” – 1Sam 17:17-18

  “What would look like?”

David asked the soldiers standing nearby, “What will a man get for killing this Philistine and ending his defiance of Israel?” – 1Sam 17:26a

  A conversation

“What are you doing around here anyway?” he demanded. “What about those few sheep you’re supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!” – 1Sam 17:28b

“What have I done now?” David replied. “I was only asking a question!” – 1Sam 17:29

Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart – 1Sam 16:7b

Don’t what they’re trying to put on you

And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” – 1Sam 17:33

So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them.” So David took them off. – 1Sam 17:38-39

Then he (David) took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine. – 1Sam 17:40

  Where the real lies

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand” – 1Sam 17:45-46a
